Biography
Michele Grimson was born in Co.Tipperary, Ireland. She now lives in Provence, France.
She studied Fine Art & Art History at Crawford College of Art & Design in Cork.
Her paintings and watercolours are surreal in style, evoking a magic realism with dreamy landscapes and solitary figures, creating emotive atmospheres through expressive compositions.
Michele’s botanical studies are characterised by attention to detail, using fine ink pens on watercolor paper to capture the dry, brittle, and delicate textures of dried flowers or seed pods.
In 2020, her botanical drawings were selected by the Society of Botanical Artists to be showcased in the Plantae Annual Exhibition in London.
Mission Statement
I’ve always been fascinated by the surreal and the subconscious. I love the mystery and symbolism in an image which encourages self reflection. For me, painting in itself is a joy but the image created must also evoke a feeling through a visual narrative.
I am also deeply inspired by the romantic painters, using the drama and beauty of landscapes to convey self expression. Many of my paintings explore the inner world and its deep connection to the natural world, reflected by solitary figures in vast open spaces.
This reverence for nature can also be seen in my botanical pen drawings. In contrast to the paintings, I enjoy working on the external detail of organic elements. I find the complexity and the natural patterns astonishingly beautiful, which always inspires me to take out my sketchbook.
